Exodus 4:1 - 5:21 -

Matthew 18:1-22 - These verses are often misunderstood as I have often prayed to "bind satan" and other spirits. However recently the Lord showed me that this is not what these verses are about. Given the context of the "little ones" that is believers who come to the Lord humbly and as a child, the Lord protects them and goes after them as the shepherd who leaves the 99 to go after the 1 lost sheep. Also this is the context for the "Church Discipline".

When someone comes into the church and is a stumbling block to these new believers we are given the authority to go to them one on one then two then the church leaders then finally to regard them as a publican or a heathen. Then the Lord explains what these verses mean. If two believers come together in Jesus name regarding things on the earth it will be done. Weather that be to bind someone who is causing young believers to stumble or loose someone who is repenting of these things Jesus listens and answers according to His Will and it is the Fathers Will that none of these should perish!

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 20:1-22:24 - To know what it is to be "poor in Spirit" one must first understand what it is to not possess all things or anything. Abraham had a lot of money, good, things, animals etc but the thing he treasured more than anything was his son. So much so, that Isaac took the place of God in the heart of Abraham. And so rightly God asks for the sacrifice of Isaac to remove Him from the throne of Abraham's heart. And before Abraham could do the boy any harm God stops Abraham from sacrificing the boy if only to say "I wanted to see what you are willing to do, but more to show you what you are willing to do". And Isaac takes his rightful place a beloved son and not on the throne of Abraham's heart a position only reserved for God.

The same goes for us, how easily things creep and crawl their way to sit on the throne of our heart, taking God's place. Riches, idols, fleshly appetites etc all have a way of consistently moving toward the center of our being to our heart where they dig in, like a weed, and can only be removed through an act of bloody sacrifice. An act that will cost you something. Yes you will it cost, it may hurt emotionally or even physically but allowing something to take God's place has never once been a pretty thing and an even worse situation te longer it goes on.

Lord Jesus please help remove all things that have taken your place in my heart. Please reign as Lord over my heart and life. I open y heart to you alone. I repent of those things I have made idols and allowed to become an idol ad take your place. Thank you for your forgivness and love and mercy, in Jesus name amen

Today's Bible Reading...

Genesis 18:20-19:39 - This was the ultimate downfall of Lot's wife. there is a deep lesson to learn from one who looks back. Jesus talks more about what it is to look back in Luke 9:62 warning that those who do are not fit for the Kingdom of Heaven. Again the warning goes out to remember Lots wife in Luke 17:32. For to look back at this fallen world and long for it rather than long for the Kingdom of Heaven is to not be fit or to not be one who will be in Heaven. As no one is "fit" to be in Heaven except by the blood of Jesus Christ as we are new creations in Him.

Vs. 27 - Having a place where we commune with the Lord is the fact of all believers and those who desire to seek after the Lord. Not as a lawful or rule type thing but rather a safe place to be distraction free as we talk and interact with our Father in Heaven

Vs. 28 - The entire area was destroyed and not just the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah I think this is important that the judgment was not limited to these two cities.

Matthew 6:25-7:14 - Vs. 7:13-14 - The way to Heaven is not easy nor broad filled with our own ways and means but it is a strict way a way that goes simply through Jesus Christ and self denial and following after His ways!

Bible Reading For the Day...

Genesis 16:1-18:19 -

Matthew 6:1-24-
Mat 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
Mat 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Mat 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Mat 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Mat 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great [is] that darkness!
Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

As modern Americans I can see no other scriptures that relate to us more than these... For our society is currently based on the opposition of these scriptures. I would encourage everyone to read A.E. Groves small book entitled "Christian Devotedness" and you can read it here

I would think it is vitally important to read and reread these scriptures and meditate on them. Searching out the Lord as to what the meaning for you, of these scriptures, are. What are riches, what does it mean to serve mammon (or money). And finally repenting for our serving of money.

The parable of the sower and the seeds from
at www.theblackmile.com.Luke 8:4 expounds on this teaching especially the seeds that are among the thorns and the cares of this world. It is amazing to think that the cares of this world can/will choke out the Lord to the point of non existant in our lives. Oh how this must be guarded!

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 11:1-13:4
- Starting in 12:4 I find it interesting that Abram was 75 years old when he departed following Gods lead, he was following the numbers we see that Abram even after the call of God waited some time before stepping out to follow God into the land He had promised him. I love, on one hand that he waited, because it shows first that Abram was not perfect but it also show that God is not in a hurry, after all He isn't going anywhere. Once God gives a command He waits, patiently, quietly waits for us to respond. I love the patience and long suffering of God.

Abrams first journey is packed full of great insights into God and what a walk with Him is like and even the very nature of God. I will try to make this brief and not leave any details, that have touched my heart, out.

Abram starts out and lands in the plain of Moreh which is located in lower Galilee, at the eastern end of the Jezreel Valley, 11 miles west of the Sea of Galilee and like anywhere the Lord takes us He is right there immediately to reward our faith with the best reward and that is His Presence vs 7. Now Abram does something odd, something you or I would do he leaves and travels further on to the outskirts of Bethel. The name Bethel means literally house of God. Abram even sets up an alter to try and recreate the very atmosphere that he experienced previously all to no avail. And why? Simply because God was not there, oh He was there to the extent that He is everywhere, but this was not where God wanted Abram to go. God even said "I will give you this land". So why did Abram leave? Maybe Abram assumed he was supposed to keep going, maybe he was trying to help God out, maybe he thought he knew what and where God wanted Him to go... Abram was wrong. Thankfully God is graceful and gently corrects him... and us...

Next Abram suffers what will always eventually happen when a follower is outside of God's Will, a famine comes over the land. So he goes to Egypt. Upon entering Abram lies about His wife, do you see the descent happening already and the toll it is taking on Abram-fending for himself.

Eventually Abram goes back to where God was and still is back in the Plain of Moreh and all is well. Abram is even blessed materially after leaving he finds himself pack full of sheep and camels etc. though I think all he really ever wanted was God and he finally has Him again.

As a follower of God it is important to remember we WILL end up where He wants us "He who began the good work in you is faithful to complete it unto the day of Christ Jesus" however, to the extent that we are thankful and are in His will is the extent that we will enjoy His presence and perfect Will. We have to travel for a few years through the world and hopefully not get to banged up all to find ourselves back right where we started at the alter at the feet of Jesus Christ enjoying His presence and all that come with it, mainly HIM.

Matthew 5:1-26 - This sermon on the mount as it is commonly called is so rich I don't know if there is enough space on all of blogspots' hard drives to contain all that could be said of these scriptures so again I will keep it brief only to bullet point what has touched my heart.

I will first point out that all of the "be attitudes" are aspects of the Christian. Yes all of them. Time spent at Jesus feet will produce every single one of these attributes and I think He wants all this for us. We have every single one of these Scriptures to look forward to Not to make it happen in our own strength but simply to wait on Him patiently, enduring, as He molds us and shapes us less like the world and more like Him, more the the very verses that we read today.

vs 3 -Blessed are the poor in Spirit. May I suggest "knowing God" by A.W. Towzer I think he does an unparalleled job at expounding on these few verses. I have, often, wondered what it means to be poor in spirit only after the Lord showing me do I now know, as anything else for that matter. Poor, poor as a beggar on the street as a common homeless person. Not, maybe a homeless person in America for even they are rich compared to some, but poor as the poorest person found on the earth. In spirit, as in mindset or thought pattern.

For to be poor in spirit is simply to have the mindset that I do not have anything. No possessions nothing to claim my attention. To be as the Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians chapter 6 vs 10 having nothing, and yet possessing all things. Maybe that will mean you selling everything you own and following after Jesus as He commanded or selling everything and laying it at the Apostles feet as the early church members did. However it "fleshes out" one thing is for sure to be poor in spirit is to not keep physical things in such a place that they choke the Word f God out or even come into your heart to slowly take the place of God as riches or things do.

We as American Christians have built our barns bigger and bigger filling them to the rim with things calling it blessing all the while getting further and further from Jesus, from His presence, from His heart and from our rightful place.

I will also encourage you to read "Christian Devotedness" by A.E. Groves it is available free online here www.theblackmile.com look for the link on the left side of the page and you can read it for free.

There is so much more that can be said about these Scriptures but in the interest of time I will stop there for this section.

Psalm 5:1-12 - Asking God to "consider my meditation" implies that you are meditating. I ask you when is the last time you stopped and stayed quiet before the Lord meditating on His Word? For in His presence is the fullness of Joy and at His right hand are pleasure evermore.

Proverbs 1:24-28 - It is often thought of God that He will put up with anything and to an extent He will. but when you get yourself into trouble time and time again and expect God to just bail you out only so you can run back to the world thanking them and not God, only to go back as a dog does to his own vomit verses like these come to mind. Especially the last part, God laughs because He has tried time and again to warn us of the dangers of the sins we are messing with and yet we willfully run to them as a man to a whore. We, without even a second thought, throw off the wisdom of God and then wonder why we get flattened by sin and the world. Frankly we have coming to us exactly what we deserve not only as individuals but as the Church his Bride and a nation.

Jesus, please forgive me for running from you to the World. I sit at your feet waiting on you. Make me as the be attitudes describe not only poor in spirit but all of them. Thank you for making me as you desire, a follower of you. Clean out my heart of all the idols that have taken their place on your throne in my heart. I repent of my sinful ways and change my direction to one heading and staying with you! In Jesus name amen.

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 8:1-10:32
- Noah first sent out a raven. Anytime God is providing the provision or a particular work is sought to be glorifying to God, can man's own devices be used to bring it about. Never can a common thing be used, in our own efforts, to being Glory to God. Not that God doesn't use common or unholy things, He certainly does, but when we, as followers of God, come to a place where we feel we can wield or command God to do a thing or use the business mindset of this world to achieve a goal on behalf of God we are certainly in error!

For example there a a lot of books on church growth or how to make more money for your church. These books may have been written by a well meaning Christian or maybe by a person just looking to sell books to the Christian community either way this is an example of using a raven to search for dry land, using something of the world to try and get a goal accomplished. All the while God has given His method for reaching said goal. Using books on growth or attending a conference on church growth almost inevitably will lead to the use of some aspect of the worlds ways and not God's. For his prescription concerning growth is given in Acts 2.

What is God doesn't want your church to grow, ever thought about that. Maybe refining and purifying the fruit that have been given is needed before more will ever come. Either way pastor, Christian, be happy with the flock God has given you and poor everything into them. Make your knees bleed and your heart ache before feeling "ready" to grow at all. Read God's Word and examine for yourself the size of the HOME CHURCH that was part of the first church. Do not let this world deceive you into thinking bigger is better. I would challenge you to meditate on the precept that your heart is simply to magnify yourself and your ministry and not God or His.

Matthew 4:12-25 - vs 17 - Jesus Christ had a simple message and that to repent. This was His first message here and his last message in the book of Revelation and continues to be His message today, so simple, so lain, so freeing, so the Truth. No big doctrinal statement or program... A simple message of repent, Oh how we need to repent and stay humbly before Him.

vs 19-20 - This is truly a great message and what great fruit that come. Follow me and they dropped their nets and followed Him. No worry about career and livelihood on the part of the lowly fishermen. They dropped their nets they as Christ said of those who wish to follow Him must deny themselves pick up their cross and follow Him. Should any other response come? When the God of the universe, our Father in Heaven, calls what could possibly come to mind except to drop all and to follow. For any need that may arise since all comes from Him anyway, isn'y He sure to provide all that is needed, yes!

Psalm 4:1-8 - vs 2 - How long will we, as Americans and the world for that matter, turn the Glory of God into shame? How long will we love vanity? How long will we seek after corruptible things? I think we have long enough.

vs 4 - I believe what is needed so basically and desperately is simply to sit in awe. Turn of Seacrest and American Idolatry and Desperate Housewives and sit, don't talk, sit, be still, stop moving, stop thinking about all that clouds our mind, just sit, be still in awe and commune with God. There is nothing more valuable. There is no time spent that will recharge and clean the lens of focus like sitting at the masters feet in awe worshiping.

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 5:1-7:24
- Many times the geneologies can seem boring and often I have wondered why God would include these in the Bible. They do show the bloodline of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, but sometimes there is an additional blessing found when one digs a little deeper.

Typically, concerning Biblical names, the name represents something else for example Methuselah comes from muth, a root that means "death"; and from shalach, which means to bring, or to send forth. The name Methuselah means, "his death shall bring". So if we look st the English transliteration or meaning of the names of the first few people listed we find something very interesting...

The generations listed in Genesis 5 are Adam (man), Seth (appointed), Enosh (mortal), Kenan (sorrow), Mahalalel (the Blessed God), Jared (shall come down), Enoch (teaching), Methuselah (His death shall bring), Lamech (The despairing), Noah (rest or comfort).

So if we read the meaning of each name in order it says ... Man appointed mortal sorrow; The Blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring the despairing rest/comfort.

It is amazing that we have the Gospel found in Genesis 5. It is also interesting some of the details in the message i.e. the Blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring... How did God come to the Earth, in the person of Jesus Christ; how did God die, in the person of Jesus Christ; and how shall rest come, from Jesus Christ. God is good!

Genesis 6:4 - Giants in the land, Nephilim. It is totally inconsequential only interesting that when plainly read these individuals are found in scripture, no other study is needed not encouraged, except to see here that they exist as there are many theories as to what or who these beings were and it is plain to see from the scripture they were not normal humans nor simply descendants as some suggest.

Genesis 6:8 - Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord - Oh that we would have the same said of us by God.

Matthew 3:7-4:11 - vs8 But I went forward at a crusade and said a prayer, I am saved... Be careful! Assurance of salvation is very evident, however, it does take time and more importantly there is proof! As John the baptist says bring forth fruit or proof of repentance. That word is key, repentance, as this is the mark or they way or the key it is what God asks from us to repent, to turn from sin and move toward God.

Psalm 3:1-8 - We have only one that is a shield and that is God, putting trust in anything/anyone else is pointless. Trust in God and wait on Him, wait... wait on Him for salvation from trouble and for salvation.

Proverbs 1:10-19 - These are the ways of them who are not following God but of them that are greedy of gain. Oh how we need to keep our eyes on the Lord and not on gaining money or prestige etc.

January 2

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 3:1-4:26
- It is often said that Eve's troubles started when she added to the Word of God by including "neither shall ye touch it" when responding to the serpent and that maybe so. But it goes to show that even if we interpret God's command to us in a way that might not be "correct" it is not as important as simply following the command. Eve may have added but she disobeyed. Many aspects of the Christian life are allowed by God to be done in a way that is different for each person, some would call this working out your salvation with fear and trembling. I may, by giving to provision to the flesh, choose to throw out my television as per a conviction. Another may not either way the command still stands how it is gone about is between God and you. Again the important thing is following the command, for Eve may have added but her downfall came when she disobeyed.

3:15 "and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel" The first mention of the Gospel as it relates to the death of Jesus Christ. But this verse is interesting for several other reasons as well. 1. "Thy seed and her seed" Seed as is commonly known comes from the man, however not in the case of the one who will be bruised as His seed is of the Holy Spirit and the woman. Jesus is 100% God 100% man. His DNA is made up of Mary's and God the Fathers, so to speak.

I also find the phrase "thy seed" interesting as well, since again the serpent, satan, is not commonly thought of as to have any seed, though Jesus when talking to the Pharisees in John 8 said "Ye are your father he devil" and
He says "anyone that is of God hears God's words". Not that the Pharisees or any Jewish person for that matter is of the devil rather anyone who is not of God is of the devil. This maybe what is referred to. I think it also hints at the Genesis 6 verses and the nephilim, that is, beings after the seed of satan.

Matthew 2:13-36 Preparing the way of the Lord, making His ways straight. For it is in the verses before that explain what exactly John the Baptists means by this statement. To prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight is to repent. When one repents from the way they naturally are going, the way from birth that will ultimately lead to death, God is there. His path is made straight. God is not deaf that He cannot hear nor His arm short that He cannot reach. In every instance in human history of a person repenting God has always been there with a straight path that leads to Him. The same is true for us today. A single act of repenting leads to God a straight path to Jesus Christ.

What does it mean to repent... The dictionary defines repent as:

  1. To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one's mind regarding it.

The changing of ones mind followed by the changing of ones actions, it is simple. Sin feels good but leads to death and separation from God in this life and for eternity. Changing one mind about thought and actions and intents regarding actions, this is repentance this is the way to make ones paths straight. For with a contrite heart and a place of sorrow for the sins committed is God ever present!

Psalm 2:1-12 Many people have hope in the governments of the world for change, the believe if the right man or woman would lead that all would be well with the world. But these Scriptures show us the heart behind the people "in charge". They aim to war against God to break His bands that control society and the world, they do not want God in control for if He is in control they are not. Rulers and kings should be voted for and prayed for but it is not up to them it is up to God and to His children as to the temperature of His followers. For if any law is passed any legislation voted upon that goes against the teachings of God's Word His Word takes precedent and trumps the law of the land. For example marijuana may be made legal but it is not "legal" in God's eyes therefore I abstain not wanting to partake of anything that would grieve my Father in Heaven.

vs 11-12 - God gives the method and recipe for a right relationship between his creation, you and I, and He the maker of Heaven and earth and our Eternal Father in Heaven... Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son lest He become angry and ye perish from the way...

Oh how we need more fear and trembling, how we need God not to be so familiar that we are not reverent toward Him or His Holy position any more. God is our father but He is not our buddy. He is not here for us as a servant or a geenie to answer our every call and whim rather we are here for Him to serve and to honor and to give Him the credit for as Gen 1:1 says it is all because of Him and to Him is all credit due and does rightfully belong.

Proverbs 1:7-9 - To have wisdom is generally thought to have come from man or a certain degree that is obtained from a university rather then from a good healthy abundant dear of the Lord. All to often a mans position is sought rather then a relationship noticed. This is most evident in the house of God, pastors have a requirement of a degree from a University and more times then not that university actually hindered that poor soul rather than encouraged it. Nothing can be ascertained from a degree given or ordination received of man Gd does not work that way. How can we follow a man when we know not his secret life. Only by following closely and seeing his fear od the Lord are we to know weather or not that ma is worthy of being called pastor or following after.

Today's Bible reading...

Genesis 1:1-2:25
In the beginning God... No four words have ever described the whole of the Bible,God, Jesus Christ, or even Christianity, for that matter. God is the source behind it all. The ever present , knowledgeable being who started and will one day finish all that there is. Amazing as this is His entire workings from old until now have been in pursuit of humankind. While He searches and calls and draws all unto Himself He brings Glory to His name, magnifies Himself in the process. Oh how we ought to take notice of God How we ought to spend the one precious resource we have wisely and that being time. How we should invest in the only sure investment and that being God.

Isn't He worthy of this? Putting aside any sort of reward that may or may not be given, isn't God worthy of adoration and praise and Glory? Isn't He due these small sacrifices? I think so. If your favorite sports figure, or singer, or celebrity or how about the President of the United States of America showed up at your house it would be all grins and awe and wonder as to the occasion. The best clothes would be brought out, the best dinner with no expense sparred would be made and offered. The thought of even asking for an autograph would be to much as to impose on the important figure...

And yet with God it is so much less every day, every moment of everyday. So casual, so non important as to the guest we have in our homes or hearts. Or even the correct knowledge that we are guests in His home and we owe Him all and not the opposite.

- Lord Jesus, may I always have awe and fear and wonderment at you. May you have your rightful place on the throne of my heart, family, home, nation and world. I give you all praise honor and Glory in the best way I know how. In Jesus name amen.

Matthew 1:1-2:12
